GENE PERLA

Gene began playing piano at a young age and stuck with it up until he heard Charlie Haden on "The Shape of Jazz to Come." Since then Gene has been a bass player and has made his mark on the Jazz world as an active musician and businessman for almost five decades. He has played with a host of greats such as Elvin Jones, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis, Frank Sinatra and Willie Bobo to name a few. His bass playing forms the foundation of Funk Xpress, and together with Vern they make up the engine that drives the band.
